At the end of June Robert Collins cycled from  the ancient Christian shrines of Walsingham to Holywell in North Wales.

Robert set off on his 3-speed boneshaker planning to cycle through the countryside avoiding if possible the large towns of Kings Lynn and Stoke on Trent. The plan was to complete the 310 miles in 5 days. He was helped on the way by SPUC supporters. At Newcastle under Lyme he met up with 88 years old Peter Hambley North Staffs Section and brother David in a supporting car. They blew the tyres up oiled the chain took some of his luggage and Peter rode with him through the Cheshire lanes via Wybunbury, Nantwich, Bunbury,Tiverton, Huxley and Waverton,  the 40 miles to Chester.The final 15 miles was completed on his own and he arrived at the shrine of St. Winifride on the Sunday morning. This was he said “a beautiful experience and gave me time to ponder over the struggle we are all involved in.”
